Tag mambo-ed Italiano last month when it was used for a cool implementation at IAB 2011, the Interactive Advertising Bureau Forum in Milan, Italy. Microsoft Tag was part of “secret word” game that kept attendees engaged by creating some gamification at the event.

IAB is a forum for operators and companies that deal everyday with digital marketing, technology, social media and new communication strategies. So it was a great chance for Microsoft Italy to let visitors know more about its new services and technologies.

Participants downloaded the Tag application on their own smartphones and scanned the Tags that were printed on a colorful poster and on the T-shirts of two hostesses. After entering their Windows Live ID on the displayed landing page, users then discoveredt the “secret word,” which pertained to marketing and digital communication. When players relayed the word at the booth, they received an original Microsoft-branded gadget.

The Italian web agency mediaki.it customized the Tags and created the landing pages. The team also developed and managed the digital draw dynamics to make sure that each word was univocal and could not be used twice.

Once again, it was game on for Tag in making a trade conference a fun and engaging experience.
