How one cruise line is using Microsoft Tag in print brochures.

Silversea Cruise Ship

Silversea Cruises can take you around the world in 8 minutes for free – or at least watching its new promotional video feels like that. The nearly 20-year-old Italian company is using Tag on the back cover of its 2012 brochure to connect would-be voyagers with video of colorful, exotic destinations and tantalizingly relaxing cruise-ship life (um, sign me up for the on-deck massage). In fact, it looks so soothing and wine-soaked that, from the looks of it, the only thing you have to worry about is your gauzy, billowy shawl blowing away in the tropical breeze. Thank you, Silversea, for reminding me that I'm stuck in rainy Seattle right now instead of having a personal chef slice me up some fresh seafood.

Anyway (where were we?), Silversea VP of Worldwide Marketing Linda Schultes said in a press release, "We're delighted to be able to offer travellers an engaging interactive experience by incorporating the latest mobile tagging technology in our new brochure. Not only will you be able to read about the unique rewards of an all-inclusive, ultra-luxury cruise holiday, but by accessing our new video from your mobile phone, you'll get to see the experience come to life." As with Holland America, another cruise line utilizing Tag to show off sea life to prospective travelers, a video can be an even more compelling way to hook customers than photos (especially when narrated by a calming British woman). Watch it if you dare:
