This week we focused on gamification and mobile social gaming. So I thought I’d end the week by highlighting a couple of really fun Microsoft Tag implementations that brought a little game (both literally and figuratively) to their users. They are also both terrific examples of custom Tags.
A Real Plum of a Game Board
Red Plum has not only been using Tag to drive bargain hunters to its virtual initiatives, but it’s also used some great custom Tags on the pages of its coupon circulars thanks in part to Track the Tag. Last month when the company went to the BlogHer event in San Diego, its booth had an awesome looking game board that used smaller Tags to create one giant Tag.
Attendees who went to Red Plum’s booth could scan the Tags to opt-in for email coupons and newsletters. Red Plum also used branded landing pages for prizes that dynamically changed on the backend as prizes were won. Even with a booth location that was less than optimum, Red Plum was quite pleased with its capture rate.
Think Mobile, Act Local
To drum up business and build engagement among residents and visitors, local businesses in Forsyth County in Georgia have launched a “Discover Forsyth Scavenger Hunt” that will run all this month. “Hunters” earn points by scanning TagMe! posters that enter them into weekly prize drawings as well as the grand prize drawing for a Chromebook computer. The points increase users’ odds of winning. They can also earn additional point incentives on the “Discover Forsyth Scavenger Hunt” Facebook and Twitter pages.
The Tag campaign came about because the small businesses did not want to do daily deals, but instead wanted to reward loyal customers. The Customer Loyalty program is being done in tandem with the scavenger hunt and is designed to complement the “hunter” experience. Users are given incentives to make purchases and unlock more rewards.
