So it looks like the massive machine that is the Justin Bieber industry has begun using Microsoft Tag to reach out to their customers (read: giant fan base of screaming tweens with smartphones).
Paramount Home Entertainment is using Tags on the Justin Bieber Never Say Never DVD release. Folks are advised to scan the bright purple Tag for a sneak peak and are rewarded with a video of Bieber performing in concert – singing while suspended mid-air in a purple wire heart (we won’t judge). It’s certainly enough to catch the attention of someone considering buying the DVD. And it’s just up the alley of anyone who’s into that sort of thing. Paramount knows its demographic well.

In an age when DVD sales are dropping due to the availability of online content, Tag helps to link the “real world” media to the online world. Tag is the perfect medium to reach Bieber’s fan base, as they well-known for being avid social media users (Bieber has over 10 million followers on Twitter). By giving potential customers a glimpse of what they’re in for before they make their purchase decision, Tag helps Paramount reach out to potential new masses of Bieber fans as well as those who have proven their devotion.
