How can a travel company capture the exhilaration of a trip on paper? If a picture’s worth a thousand words, I’m not sure how many a video is worth – but Lindblad Expeditions might have an idea.
The travel company, which partners with National Geographic to send researchers, photographers, and other curious minds to places like Antarctica and Papua New Guinea, recently used Tags in their travel brochures to promote specific expeditions. When scanned, Lindblad’s Tags take the traveler to engaging, educational videos about specific travel destinations so the viewer can get an idea of what to expect. A two-minute video for potential Baltic travelers, for example, gives viewers a close glimpse of life around the Baltic Sea in “impressionistic sketches,” from a smiling girl wearing a crown of flowers to shots of the swelling sea. Lindblad’s Alaska 2011 brochure uses Tags too, with a front-of-book explainer so readers know exactly how to use the Tags and why. Smart. (Check out Holland America's recent use of Tag, too.)
