How North American Fisherman Magazine is using mobile tagging.

Fishing Magazine

Who wants to go fishing? Joining the ranks of magazines like People and Sports Illustrated, North American Fisherman Magazine has started using Tag to engage readers. In a short video, online editor Jim Edlund explains that the magazine adopted Tag because "There's simply not enough room in North American Fisherman Magazine to share everything we're excited about and know you'll be excited about." Scanning Tags in the magazine takes fishing enthusiasts to tip-filled videos of fishers in action, as well as slideshows, interviews, and partner discounts on fishing gear.

After explaining what Tags are, how to use them, and how to download the reader (nice!), Edlund adds, "Folks, the smartphone is fast becoming an angler's multi-tool, with GPS, video, lake mapping, Microsoft Tags – you name it." Watch:

Rather than throwing in Tags without an explanation and confusing or frustrating readers, the magazine has done a nice job of introducing Tag to readers by dedicating some real estate in a recent issue to explaining what to do. Tags are "a great way to access more information quickly and easily," adds Steve Pennaz in another video.

What do you think of the magazine's approach? Share your thoughts in the comments below or on Tag’s Facebook or Twitter pages.
