Port Townsend Main Street Program was selected as one of 100 finalists for the 2011 This Place Matters Community Challenge, where the local preservation organization or preservation project with the most votes wins $25,000.

Port Townsend immediately began to utilize every tool to advocate for their project: the Hastings Bu
ilding, built in 1890. The Program launched a Facebook page, Twitter feed, and YouTube video. A drawing was created for an EPIC Night on the Town in Port Townsend for all the people who cast their votes for Port Townsend on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s website. But what really brought the campaign together and engaged locals, tourists and likely voters was the use of Microsoft Tags on business cards and posters.
By scanning the Microsoft Tag, smartphone users are brought to the YouTube video that advocates for the project, the city, and the overall importance of historical preservation. In addition, a link to the voting page is included, making it super-easy for people to vote right on the spot.
How would you use Microsoft tag to inform, advocate, and engage? Let us know below or on Microsoft Tag’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
