A Sweet Promo

Last month Mars Chocolate North America decided to kick off a sultry summer with the perfect candy: M&Ms. Why is that the best choice to promote during the hot summer months (stop me if you see where I’m going with this)? Because it melts in your mouth, not in your hand!

From May 31st to June 7th Mars ran a promotion on Xbox Live Dashboard in the spotlight channel that asked viewers to scan a Tag and be entered to win one of over 90 prizes that included a new Xbox 360 console and Xbox Kinect. The campaign was very successful and proved that Tag doesn’t need to be on print materials to get scans–it can be placed digitally as well.

While this unique implementation of Tag on Xbox LIVE is interesting in itself, I can’t get past what a perfect fit the promotion was: M&Ms, the most heat-resistant candy was giving away Xbox Kinect, the hottest gadget of the summer. Sometimes things are just meant to be.
