Microsoft Tag Scanning SDK

How can you leverage the functionality of Microsoft Tag and your mobile app to more effectively connect with customers? With the Microsoft Tag Scanning SDK! The SDK enables you to develop smartphone applications that scan Tag barcodes and connect people to your custom mobile experiences. Integrate the Tag technology directly into your mobile app to make things easier for customers – no more searching through multiple barcode scanners and apps. With the Tag Scanning SDK, your customers can stay within your mobile app to get your full branded experience.

The Scanning SDK requires a free production key. To request a key, please follow “To receive the Tag Scanning SDK” steps below.

At this time, the Scanning SDK does not provide support for scanning QR Codes or NFC touchpoints.

Using the Tag Scanning SDK

We’ve developed this SDK to enable you to create interesting scanning experiences. You can trial the SDK to determine if it meets your needs and request commercial access when you’re ready to launch your Tag scanning-enabled app. The Tag Scanning SDK is currently available for the following platforms:.

• iPhone

• Android

• Windows Phone 7.5

• Unique, creative apps

• Apps that will be released in the next six months or so

• Tag barcodes that will point users to quality experiences, whether they use the Tag App or another barcode-scanning app

• Your brand’s own app that will scan Microsoft Tag barcodes, created by your brand

The SDK is not for you if:

• Your app is limited to barcode reading only (i.e. the primary purpose of your app is to read Tags and/or other 2D barcodes)

• The Tags for your app point to obscene or derogatory experiences

We reserve the right to revoke the production key or reject the app at any time if it does not meet our app requirements (which can be found at SDK Application Requirements). Please see the SDK Commercial Agreement for additional information.

To receive the Tag Scanning SDK:

1. Request a trial key from the Tag Key Manager. Sign in with your Windows Live ID, read and accept the Evaluation Agreement, and then download the zip file of the trial SDK bits for the relevant mobile platform(s).

2. Try out the SDK and see if you want to move forward with a commercial release, apply for a full-use production key and complete our commercial licensing agreement.

3. Upon approval of your intended usage, you’ll receive notice with a full-use production key. Notify Microsoft Tag when you are ready to release the app publicly.
