For Woman's Day, staying connected to its 20 million readers is a top priority. Since today’s women are constantly on the go, smartphone in hand, mobile marketing with Microsoft Tag is an integral part of its brand presence providing readers with instant access to sweepstakes, recipes, coupons, and more. The magazine has developed some great best practices for mobile tagging including using its own custom Tag on editorial content and ads, devoting many pages in its first interactive issue about Tag and how to use it, and creating a custom mobile site for all its Tag content. Readers have really taken to Tag and because of that Woman’s Day will Tag more of its pages.
Tag Creates Excitement at Tech-Ed
Technical professionals from all across the country were on hand to learn about the latest Microsoft technologies and products at the annual Tech•Ed North America conference. The event was made even more engaging thanks to Microsoft Tag. Tag created digital content and social experiences attendees connected to via their smartphones prior to the conference, during the actual event, and even after the conference was over.
Tag made it easy for attendees to access the myTech•Ed mobile site where they could find schedules, learn about Microsoft technologies, exchange information about the event and featured products, connect with their peers, win virtual badges, and much more. Speaking of virtual badges, there was quite a bit of buzz over the scavenger hunt Tags that were used in conjunction with myTech•Ed. Thirteen Tags were randomly placed throughout the venue and attendees needed to find and scan at least 10 in order to receive the unique Scavenger Hunt puzzle badge.
Overall, Tag proved to be an outstanding success at the conference with attendees scanning more than 17,000 times. So look out for Tag at next year’s Tech•Ed North America!

James Sun, a former contestant on the hit reality TV show “The Apprentice,” is using Microsoft Tag to perfect the art of the deal for his new mobile app, Pirq. Pirq is the first partner to embed the Microsoft Tag scanning functionality directly into their iPhone app, leveraging our new Tag Scanning SDK. Pirq offers limited-time deals to its customers through the app. The difference between Pirq and most website-based daily deal purveyors is that its offers are location-based and available on-the-go in real time, with no upfront credit card payment or 24-hour waiting period in order to redeem them.
Users that download the Pirq app can search for the closest deals to them. To redeem the coupon, they just go to the restaurant and scan the Tag located there with their smartphone. Consumers receive 20 to 50% off their total bill. Pirq just launched the app in Seattle and participating restaurants include Sip, 13 Coins, Pegasus Pizza, Cupcake Royale, The Melting Pot and many more.

Tag Tip of the Month
You want to get the most out of your Tags for both you and your customers. Get a couple of our best practices to ensure your Tags are always providing an engaging experience.
1. Make sure your Tag has a white border. This ensures it remains readable. The width of the white space should be equal to the height of the bottom black bar and not have any encroachment of lines, figures, or other artifacts. And, of course, you should always test the Tag before using it to confirm it scans correctly.
2. Tell your users how to download the Microsoft Tag app. For example: “Get the free mobile app at http://gettag.mobi.” Remember, 2D barcodes may be unfamiliar to some consumers. We also recommend you clearly tell them what kind of content is behind the Tag so they know what to expect when scanning. For instance, “Scan this Tag to view our instructional video.”
