Are you new to mobile tagging? Sometimes it's easy to forget the field is still catching on (at least here in the U.S.), and it never hurts to brush up on the basics. Angie Schottmuller recently detailed 14 things marketers should know about barcodes on the Search Engine Watch blog, from the very basic (you scan them with a smartphone) to some best practices:
- Barcodes should provide extra value (coupons, how-to videos, etc.)
- Give your users instructions on what to do and why they should scan your barcode
- Test your barcode first
- Seek help if it's your first time using them
Read her whole list and check out her one-page 2D barcode best practices checklist, which you can download and use to keep campaigns on track. Great guidance for the newly initiated.
Schottmuller also links to Burson-Marsteller and Proof Integrated Communications' study, "The Fortune 50 Use of Mobile," which is a few months old but has some great insights (62% of Fortune 50 companies have a mobile site or app) and examples of what top companies are doing now. Check it out:
We've written before about marketer tips for using 2D barcodes (running A/B tests is one of Mashable's suggestions), as well as created some how-tos to help you analyze your Tag's performance and change end content to keep it fresh.
