In this week's mockup, we're putting on our imagination-hats to think about making public transit better. There's nothing I can do about the man puking on your bus or that eerie child who stares at you on the subway, unfortunately, but there are a couple ways using Tags at bus, train, or light rail stops could make the whole experience a little more pleasant:
- Arrival times. Scanning a Tag could tell you exactly how late your bus or train is, so you can start mentally rehearsing your excuse for the boss. It could also alert riders to upcoming arrival time changes due to holiday schedules or inclement weather.
- Maps. When scanned by someone's smartphone, a Tag at a bus stop could provide a map of the route, as well as displaying which routes run nearby. Adding in location awareness could let riders map out which bus or train to take in order to get to a certain destination.
- More. A Tag at a stop could connect the rider with a mobile site where she can provide feedback, buy a transit pass or add value, or get a coupon to a nearby coffeeshop (for those times when the bus is running late).
