We’ve recently done a bit of brainstorming and thought that the idea of using Microsoft Tag on hiking trails would be an amazing idea. Tags could be placed at the beginning of a trailhead, where often a map and maybe some information about the area would be displayed. When scanned, the Tag could link to a map of the trail and surrounding area with important landmarks, hazards, or even a time-lapsed video of the trail.
But why stop there? A number of Tags could be planted throughout the trail to provide information about the history of the area, local flora and fauna, or restoration efforts.
Tag is flexible and mobile enough to connect viewers to relevant web media even out in the wilderness (wherever there’s smartphone coverage). Rather than distracting from the nature and experience of a hike, Tag can add some very informative and accessible content.
