With mobile commerce on the rise there are some big retailors working on new ways to engage customers through their mobile devices. P&G and Wal-Mart have just recently partnered together on a month long initiative to engage urban consumers in scanning QR Codes to purchase their large consumable items. Launching pop-up stores in Chicago and mobile truck stores in Manhattan this initiative is underway.

The @PGMobile trucks are parked all throughout New York allowing consumers to scan the QR Codes to purchase the household items that they prefer not to lug through the subway and a couple blocks back to their apartment. Once a consumer has purchased the items via the QR code it will be quickly delivered to their door step. This is pretty smart, no one wants to carry a 10lbs bag of dog food or a 30 pack of toilet paper all the way back to their apartment.

It will be interesting to see what the end results are because this might be one way that retailors can compete with Amazon and their mobile purchasing incentives.

Great idea to educate the potential customer on how to use new technology to purchase items
