Product labels and packaging don’t offer much real estate for persuasive marketing. Microsoft Tag can solve that problem, helping you make the sale while the shopper is standing in the store. A thumb-sized Tag on your product label can put a wealth of information at your customers’ fingertips via their smartphones – check out this cool example of tagging kayaks in an outdoors store.

 

Tag lets you answer the questions going through customers’ minds before they even pick up the product, an approach Herbal Essences takes with its current in-store campaign.

 

Or how about food and wine? Tags can add fun (Dentyne Ice) or convey in-depth product intel (Meyer Natural Beef). Scanning a Tag on a meat wrapper could take you to a mobile site that answers questions like: How long has this beef been on the shelf? Where was the cow raised? What was it fed? Is it certified organic? It could even offer cooking suggestions or recipes. Similarly, some vintners are now putting Tags on their wine labels, providing customers with in-depth details on the grapes, growing conditions, tasting notes, food pairings, and ratings.

Complicated medicine labels could be simplified, with Tag displaying ingredients and easy-to-understand directions for use, or answering common questions such as “Will this cough syrup make me drowsy?”

 

Tag could direct customers to the latest price comparisons, news of upcoming sales, or take consumers to a mobile customer-service site where they can interact with you directly. Tag could even tell consumers about the life cycle of a product: where it came from, what it’s made of, how to recycle it.
