Looking for some pointers on effectively using 2D barcodes in your mobile marketing efforts? Mashable just did a great industry piece, 2D Codes: The 10 Commandments for Marketers, that identifies Microsoft Tag, along with QR codes, EZ Codes, and ScanLife, as key players in this space.
Many of the “commandments” reflect best practices that we promote to Tag users, including directing consumers to a web page designed specifically for smartphones, offering consumers added value through promotions or campaigns, and providing text and/or graphics explaining where consumers can download a code reader. Author Jamie Turner also notes the importance of tracking user scans to gauge the effectiveness of a campaign, and cites the robust analytic capabilities that Microsoft Tag and ScanLife offer.
The article highlights innovative uses by Starbucks (commerce) and the Smithsonian (education), and points out that “the best 2D code experiences inspire prospects or customers to come back for more.” We agree!
What do you think of these “10 commandments”? What other tips would you share with other marketers for using 2D barcodes? Let us know in the Comments below or on Tag's Facebook or Twitter pages.
